Aluminum diethylphosphinate is used as an excellent halogen-free flame retardant for engineering plastics such as polyamides, polyesters, thermosets and elastomers. In terms of UL94 flammability testing, Glow Wire Ignition Temperature (GWIT) and Glow Wire Flammability Index (GWFI) testing, and Tracking Index (CTI), Aluminum diethylphosphinate is used in glass fiber reinforced polyamide 6 and 66 composites and various Excellent performance in polyesters (PBT and PET).
Aluminum diethylphosphinate acts both in the condensed phase to promote carbon formation of the polymer and at the same time removes high energy free radicals in the combustion zone. Aluminum diethylphosphinate is often used in combination with other halogen-free flame retardants or synergists such as melamine polyphosphate and melamine cyanurate.
